Imagine
you are walking to work one
morning and as you get to your
bus-stop, you notice a bird
sitting there looking back at
you ... not an unusual scenario
in the lower mainland, except
the bird happens to be an exotic
bird - a cockatiel to be exact.
Would you
know what to do?
Luckily
for this cockatiel, the person
who found her took her home and
called Greyhaven Exotic Bird
Refuge. "This is an average
phone call for us", says Mel
Walker, President of Greyhaven.
"People would be surprised to
find out the background of the
birds that come to Greyhaven -
we've seen it all".
Ms. Walker
and the volunteers that run
Greyhaven have been rescuing
exotic birds since its
foundation in 1998. Located in
Surrey, Greyhaven is a
registered non-profit society
specializing in exotic bird
rescue, refuge and adoptions.
Most birds are placed in foster
homes until they are
successfully adopted.
And as for
the bus-stop cockatiel, you will
be happy to know that the person
who found her has decided to
adopt her. That is one lucky
bird!
